Being the most loved game in Pakistan, Cricket has always been a great source of leisure and entertainment for last couple of decades. Pakistan is thought to be one of those counties where there is an abundant talent of cricket. Is is also one of few cricket playing nations who have won World Cup.
Pakistan Cricket Board started its own T20 league last year in
February, 2016. Happiness of cricket fans in Pakistan had no bounds at that
time. Even those who were not much interested in watching cricket, started
doing so just because of supporting their regional teams; i.e Quetta
Gladiators, Lahore Qalanders, Karachi Kings, Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad
United. Many crazy fans were also supporting the teams from other regions.
So, Pakistan Super League was officially kicked off from February,
08 with five teams going neck to neck to grab first ever trophy of HBL PSL. Fans in Pakistan watched all the matches on TV, You tube or through any
other link. In the start there were a few low scoring but tight matches.
Overall, Karachi Kings and Lahore Qalanders were being considered as the “Favorites”
but both these teams ended as last with Islamabad United clinching the 1st
ever PSL Trophy. Quetta Gladiators were the runner up with Peshawar Zalmi
ending as 3rd in the competition.
Pakistan cricket board benefited a lot from the initial edition. According to a rough estimate, PCB earned about 28 Crore (26 millions US dollars). Most of its earnings came through TV rights. Fans in Pakistan were not able to watch the league live so they had to watch it on TV.
